The One That Got Away
When we set up Bibliofemme we made a rule that the person whose turn it was
to pick a bookclub book should not have read it in advance. The idea was
that we would all embark on the same unpredictable adventure in reading the
book and that people would be encouraged to take chances with books they
might not otherwise have picked. The rule works well (sometimes the worst
books provoke the best discussions), but it does have one major drawback:
every so often one of us inadvertently reads a book that we wish we had kept
for a bookclub choice. Hence the establishment of this new Bibliofemme
website section: The One That Got Away. Now we can let you know about the
books we wish we'd read with the femmes, and maybe you can bear them in mind
when picking a book for your own bookclub.
Happy reading!
