Winner of Francis Mac Manus competition announced

The winners of the 18th Annual RTÉ Radio 1 Francis Mac Manus Short Story Competition were announced in Dublin last night.

Vincent McDonnell won first prize for his short story 'Lemon Creams' and was presented with a Waterford Crystal trophy and a cheque for €3,000.

Second prize was won by Betty Thompson for 'Would You Like To See A Photograph?' and third prize was won by Rosie Rowell for 'Letting Go'.

The judges - Seamus Hosey, David Marcus, Ann Walsh, Mannix Flynn and Terry Prone - said they were very impressed by the high standard of the entries and selected 21 entries for the short-list.

Over the years, the RTÉ Radio 1 Francis Mac Manus Short Story Competition has resulted in the broadcast of over 500 stories by new and emerging writers and set many authors on the path to publication and recognition.

The winning stories will be broadcast weekly starting on Saturday 21 February on RTÉ Radio 1.
