Japanese version of fifth Harry Potter book goes on sale

JK Rowling
Japanese fans of JK Rowling's Harry Potter series were in bookstores early yesterday morning to get their hands on the long-awaited Japanese translation of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

The English version went on sale last June but the translator, Yuko Matsuoka, who is also president of Rowling's Say-zan-sha publishers, takes almost a year to do the translation, said a spokesperson.

The new Harry Potter adventure has a record initial print run of 2.9 million, up from 2.32 million for the fourth book, 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire'.

The first four books in the series have sold more than 16 million copies in Japan so far.
