Carey's The Mermaids Singing gets stars
Actresses Jessica Lange, Neve Campbell and Evan Rachel Wood have been lined
up to star in the movie adaptation of Lisa Carey's 1998 novel The Mermaids
Singing.
The book tells the story of three generations of independent women and their
varied relationships to their homeplace, an island off the west coast of
Ireland.
The Mermaids Singing was the American author's first novel and she wrote it
while living on Inishbofin.
For five years, Carey divided her time between Ireland and New England,
where she wrote her second novel, In the Country of the Young. She currently
lives in Brookline, Massachusetts.
Screenwriter Robin Swicord will make her directorial debut with the indie
film.
