03/12/2004 Dublin-born poet wins international award
A Dublin-born poet has won first prize at the Arvon International Poetry Competition.
Joe Kane picked up the top prize, the Duncan Lawrie Bank award, in the internationally acclaimed competition for his poem, The Boy Who Nearly Won the Texaco Art Competition.
Kane scooped stg £5,000 for the poem and was also a prizewinner of two other major poetry awards this year - Samhain International Poetry Competition (2nd prize) and the Patrick Kavanagh Awards (3rd prize).
This years judges included poets Jean Sprackland, Jamie McKendrick and Tom Paulin.
