04/02/2004 Shortlist for Francis Mac Manus Competition Announced
The short-listed entrants in the RTÉ Radio 1 Francis Mac Manus Short Story Competition 2003 have been published. The competition, now in it's 18th year, commemorates the distinguished broadcaster and novelist Francis Mac Manus, who was a major influence in encouraging writers and developing radio as a way of promoting new ideas and writing. The winner will be announced on Wednesday 11th February next.
The adjudication panel, under the chairmanship of Seamus Hosey, Senior Producer, RTÉ Radio 1, included editor and author, David Marcus; producer Ann Walshe and the Canadian novelist and poet Jane Urquhardt.
The 2003 competition attracted over 700 entries from all over Ireland and from Irish people living abroad.
Many of the 21 short-listed stories will be broadcast on RTÉ radio over the coming months starting with the winning entry on Saturday 21 February.
