Honorary degree for Harry Potter author

JK Rowling
JK Rowling, the creator and author of the Harry Potter series of children's books, is to receive an honorary degree from Edinburgh University today.

Rowling has written a lot of her work in the Scottish capital where she lives with her husband and two children.

She also completed a teacher-training course in 1996 at Moray House in Edinburgh.

The author is to collect the degree of doctor honoris causa, which is one of the university's highest accolades.

Rowling said: "I am delighted and honoured to be receiving an honorary degree from the University of Edinburgh, my adopted home city."
