12/03/2004 Paul Durcan to read at Poetry Festival
Irish poet Paul Durcan is among the poets involved in the ninth annual Poetry Now Festival (PN04), which takes place in Dun Laoghaire from Friday 25 to Sunday 28 March.
Durcan will read with Pulitzer Prize-winning American poet WS Merwin and the 2004 Whitbread Poetry Award winner, Don Paterson.
This year's festival will also include a Keynote Address by the poet and celebrated TV pundit, Tom Paulin, on the subject of 'William Wordsworth: A Republican Poet?'
Other highlights include Nobel Prize-winning Caribbean poet Derek Walcott; this year's Forward Poetry Prize winner, Belfast poet Ciaran Carson; and the voice of Creole British poetry, Grace Nichols.
The Young Guns reading for new Irish poets - Leontia Flynn, Paul Perry, Bill Tinley and Cathal McCabe - will take place on Sunday 28 March and there will also be a number of workshops with selected poets.
Poetry Now and The Irish Times have also announced a new annual literary award to coincide with the celebration of 10 years of Poetry Now in 2005.
The Irish Times PN05 Award will be presented to the author of the best single volumes of poems published by an Irish poet, or by Irish publishers, in the calendar year 2004.
