12/12/2004 1920s 'Bridget Jones' to benefit Oxfam
A diary written by a teenager in 1920s Britain is being hailed as the 'real-life Bridget Jones'.
The notebook was handed in to branch of Oxfam in the UK and details the men-and-diet obsessed writings of 17-year old Ilene Powell in the mid 1920s.
Oxfam has decided to publish the diary after encouragement from media and publishing quarters and it will go on sale in the run up to Christmas.
Powell's journal could raise over €1.5million for the charity according to their Trade Director. "If sales reflect the interest we have received from the public, then the diary could become an international bestseller," said Chris Coe of Oxfam.
