16/06/2004 RTÉ lyric fm to release Joyce Songs LP
RTÉ lyric fm celebrates the centenary of Bloomsday with the launch of an album entitled 'Joyce Songs: James Joyce's Musical Dublin'.
The 16 songs on the record are those that Joyce sang himself or used in his writings, particularly in 'Ulysses', and include popular drinking songs, opera arias, music hall numbers and ballads.
Old standards, such as 'The Minstrel Boy' and 'I Dreamt I Dwelt in Marble Halls', are included alongside tracks which have never been recorded before.
The songs are performed by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra under the baton of Robert Houlihan and soloists include Owen Gilhooly, Elizabeth Woods, Emmanuel Lawler, Dáire Halpin, Derek Moloney and Frank Dunne with pianist Pádhraic Ó'Cuinneagáin.
