16/11/2004 New edition of Plath's Ariel to be published
A new facsimile edition of one of Sylvia Plath's most famous collections will be published on November 25th. The new edition of Ariel will be published by Faber.
The original collection was published posthumously in 1965 and was edited by Plath's husband Ted Hughes.
The newly restored edition of Ariel follows the original order of Plath's last manuscript of the poems as she left them at the time of her death.
Several poems not included in Hughes' version of Ariel - including 'The Courage of Shutting-Up', 'The Rabbit Catcher' and 'Thalidomide' - are included and a total of 12 previously omitted poems are in the new edition.
The foreword in the new book is written by Frieda Hughes, Plath's daughter.
