PJ O'Connor Awards shortlist announced
The shortlist of the 2004 RTÉ PJ O'Connor Radio Drama Awards has been announced.
Over 150 plays from writers all over Ireland and overseas were entered into this year's competition.
The plays were read by the producers in the RTÉ Radio Drama Department and the final shortlist of 12 will now be given to the adjudication panel which includes Pauline McGlynn, actor and best-selling author; Peter Fallon, poet and publisher of the Gallery Press; and Kate Minogue, former Producer-in-Charge in the RTÉ Drama Department.
As well as the professional production of their plays, the winners will receive €3,000 (winner), €2,000 (runner-up) and €1,000 (second runner-up).
The RTÉ PJ O'Connor Radio Drama Awards were established 22 years ago to honour the former RTÉ Radio 1 Head of Drama who was noted for his encouragement of new talent.
The aim of the competition is to encourage new writers to radio drama and to increase awareness of the possibilities and scope of radio as a medium in the field of drama.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Studio 1 in the RTÉ Radio Centre on Wednesday 7 July.
