18/06/2004 First edition 'Jane Eyre' goes under hammer
A first edition of Charlotte Bronte's 'Jane Eyre' is expected to fetch up to €40, 000 when it goes under the hammer in New York later today.
The triple volume is being auctioned at Sotheby's at around 3pm Irish time. According to the auction house the finely bound copies published in 1847 are in remarkable condition.
Also on sale in today's auction is a second edition compilation of William Shakespeare's Comedies, Histories and Tragedies, which is estimated to fetch in the region of €44,000.
