Stephenson wins Arthur C Clarke award

Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson
The Arthur C Clarke award has gone to Neal Stephenson for his massive trilogy opener Quicksilver. The Arthur C Clarke award for British science-fiction writing has been running since 1987.

Previous winners include Christopher Priest for The Separation (2003), Gwyneth Jones for Bold As Love (2002), China Miéville for Perdido Street Station (2001), Bruce Sterling for Distraction (2000) and Tricia Sullivan for Dreaming in Smoke (1999).

The judges were Iain Emsley (bookseller and critic), Carol Ann Kerry-Green (reviewer), Dr Mark Bould (academic and critic), and Geoff Ryman (writer). The representative of the Science Museum is Dave Palmer.

Neal Stephenson received an engraved bookend and a cheque for £2,004.
