19/10/2004 Bookies tip Mitchell for Booker
David Mitchell is the bookmakers' favourite to win the 2004 Man Booker
Prize, the results of which will be announced tonight.
British bookmakers William Hill have Mitchell's Cloud Atlas, his second
Booker-nominated book, priced at 5/4.
Alan Hollinghurst's The Line of Beauty is second favourite at 5/2 while
Irish author Colm Tóibín is quoted at 9/2 with The Master.
The only female author to make the list, Sarah Hall, is 7/1 for The Electric
Michelangelo, Gerald Woodward's I'll Go To Bed At Noon is 12/1, while Bitter
Fruit by Achmat Dangor is the 14/1 outsider.
The books were selected from a 22-strong longlist by a panel of judges and
the award will be announced at a ceremony in London's Royal Horticultural
Halls tonight.
