20/11/2004 Play.com enters the book market
Online retailer Play.com has entered the book market offering delivery to countries in Europe.
The site which is best known for selling music, film DVDs and video games is competing directly with Amazon.com in the online book retail market.
In the run up to Christmas the site is heavily promoting offers such as up to 40% of books included in the BBC's Big Read.
In a further blow to Amazon, the site is also competing on delivery costs and is offering free postage to anyone buying books online at their site.
