Ron Howard for East of Eden remake

Ron Howard
It has been reported that Universal Pictures is set to adapt John Steinbeck's novel 'East of Eden' for the big screen with Ron Howard of 'A Beautiful Mind' directing.

Variety reports that Universal, together with Imagine Entertainment, are close to finalising a deal with Steinbeck's estate for the adaptation to be written by Paul Attanasio.

Steinbeck's tale, which is a modern take on the Garden of Eden and Cain and Abel stories, was published in 1952 and adapted for the big screen in 1955 by Warner Brothers. Howard's version aims to return to Steinbeck's work instead of remaking the Warner Brothers' film.

Next up for Howard is 'Cinderella Man' starring Russell Crowe and Renee Zellweger.
