21/12/2004 Google to collaborate with University Libraries
Google, the Internet Search Engine, is set to collaborate with some of the largest academic libraries in the world to make it easier to search for books online.
The libraries include Oxford University, Harvard and The New York Public library and Google plan to digitally scan their book collections so that the public can find them online.
Google's aim is to make available a large body of work found in literary journals, reference books and academic printed matter.
When the collections have been scanned, Google will add the material to their search index, making it easier for book lovers to find rare and out-of-print works and books usually only available in libraries.
