27/09/2004 Bernard Malamud adaptation gets stars
Dylan McDermott, Rose Byrne, and Snoop Dogg have been confirmed as the stars of a film based on Bernard Malamud's 1971 novel, The Tenants.
According to Production Weekly, the book will be adapted by Danny Green.
American novelist and short-story writer Malamud, who won a Pulitzer Prize for his previous novel The Fixer, died in 1986. His work involved making parables out of Jewish immigrant life.
McDermott will play Henry Lesser, the sole tenant of a rundown tenement who is struggling to finish a novel, but things become complicated when Willie Spearmint (Dogg), a black writer ambivalent toward Jews, moves into the building.
Byrne plays Willie's white girlfriend Irene. Filming will start in Los Angeles in October.
