Writer Janet Frame dead

Janet Frame
Janet Frame the reclusive writer from New Zealand, died yesterday aged 79. Last month she revealed that she was suffering from cancer of the blood and bone marrow.

Born on the South Island of New Zealand, she is best know for her three-part autobiography that was later made into a film An Angel at my table, directed by oscar winner Jane Campion.

Frame published her first book, The Lagoon and Other Stories, in 1951, and her first novel, Owls Do Cry, in 1957. She wrote 11 novels, five short story collections, a collection of poetry and an autobiography. She was widely tipped as a favourite to win last years Nobel Prize for Literature.
