46664 book launched by Mandela in London

Nelson Mandela
Former South African president Nelson Mandela has been joined by stars from the entertainment world to launch a book celebrating last year's 46664 charity concert.

Mandela was joined at the London press conference yesterday by Annie Lennox, Brian May, Roger Taylor, Peter Gabriel and Yusuf Islam, all of whom performed at the 46664 AIDS awareness concert in Cape Town. The concert was named after Mandela's prison number.

The 46664 concert, attended by 40,000 people, featured over 30 international music stars, including Bob Geldof, The Corrs, Bono, Beyoncé, Ms Dynamite and Anastacia.

Mandela launched the book about the concert, saying: "This book is a record of that with pictures and words from all my friends involved."

"Every HIV infection can be prevented and every AIDS infection can be treated. Together we can make the dream a reality," said Mandela.

John Samuel, Chief Executive of the Nelson Mandela Foundation, said he hoped that 46664 would have raised $15 million by the end of 2005, from the Cape Town concert and the sale of the DVD and photo book.

Two further concerts are also being planned for next year.
