Third Potter film in cinemas today

'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' opens in cinemas today, following a star-studded European premiere in London last night.

Thousands of fans greeted the stars outside the screening in Leicester Square, with organisers estimating that the crowd was three times bigger than that of the New York premiere.

Author JK Rowling said that it was only at premieres that she really appreciated the extent of the Potter phenomenon.

Rowling added that she was hard at work on a new book, but did not say when she hoped to have it completed.
