Tatty shortlisted for Irish Novel of the Year Award
Tatty by Christine Dwyer Hickey and published by New Island in 2004 has been shortlisted for the Hughes & Hughes / Sunday Independent Irish Novel of the Year Award.
Niall MacMonagle one of the judges said that "It was Tatty that won the highest praise from our panel, thanks to the author's controlled, spare and devastatingly
effective writing style."
"Tatty's voice is real and immediate," said fellow judge Katie Wink.
"Hickey's choice of detail is impeccable - the briefest scene or smallest
object speaks volumes about Tatty, her family and the world they live in.
This economy, in which so little says so much, gives Tatty its quiet,
remarkable power."
Both judges, along with Bert Wright, voted to secure Tatty's place in the
final. The award is announced on March 2nd 2005.
