02/06/2005 McCartney to publish children's book
Paul McCartney has signed a deal to publish a children's picture book.
Penguin Young Readers Group announced yesterday that the former Beatle has signed on with them to publish, High in the Clouds: An Urban Furry Tail. The book was reportedly inspired by Tropic Island Hum, an animated film McCartney helped to create.
Tropic Island Hum was released last year on DVD as part of Paul McCartney: The Music and Animation Collection and tells the story of Wirral the Squirrel, who escapes from hunters and finds himself on an island with other animals seeking refuge.
McCartney will team up with veteran children's book author Philip Ardagh and animator Geoff Dunbar. The picture book is to be released this October with a first print of 500,000 copies.
"Having worked on this story and the characters for many years, it's very exciting for me to see things come to fruition in what I think will be a remarkable book," McCartney said in a statement.
62-year-old McCartney has five children of his own: four from his first wife, Linda McCartney, who died of cancer in 1998, and a one-year-old daughter with his wife, Mills McCartney.
