02/08/2005 Bridget Jones newspaper column returns
Helen Fielding, creator of thirty-something singleton Bridget Jones, is to begin a new weekly column in a British newspaper on Thursday.
The dizzy girl-about-town first emerged in The Independent ten years ago and was initially a cult success.
The 1996 novel that grew out of that column, Bridget Jones's Diary, was an international success with the character finally settling down in an equally successful follow-up in 1999 - Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.
Both books have since adapted for film, with Renée Zellweger starting as Bridget Jones.
The Independent is planning a major radio and TV advertising campaign to accompany the return of the weekly column and will give away a free paperback book containing the first 40 Bridget Jones columns as they originally appeared back in 1995.
