Jose Saramago to publish new book

Jose Saramago
The Portuguese writer Jose Saramago is to publish a new book this autumn.

At 82, Saramago is still writing and his new book is called The Intermittencies of Death.

He is the author of several novels including The Cave, The Double, Lucidity and his controversial work, The Gospel According to Jesus Christ, which is a fictional account of the life of Jesus in which Jesus is actually the son of Joseph, not God.

Saramago was given the Nobel Prize for literature in 1998 and is the only author writing in Portuguese to receive the literary award.

His books have been translated into more than 35 languages and he is a relative 'late-developer' as a novelist, only publishing his first book at the age of 60 in 1982.
