04/01/2005 Sci-fi illustrator Freas dies
Science fiction and fantasy book illustrator Kelly Freas has died.
The American illustrator worked for over half a century illustrating science fiction book covers by well-known authors such as Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov and Frederik Pohl.
Freas was also responsible for the cover of Queen's News of the World album and his most recent illustrative work was for the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban film, which he drew a werewolf picture for.
However, he is most famous for his long association with cult comic Mad magazine, and was one of the creators of its famous mascot Alfred E. Newman.
Freas was 82 and is survived by his wife, son and daughter.
