Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers Awards
Heaven Lake by John Dalton and Name all the Animals by Alison Smith won the Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers Awards on Wednesday night.
Heaven Lake a debut novel about an American missionary who learns unexpected lessons in Taiwan and mainland China, received the fiction prize. Name all the Animals a memoir about a woman's late brother won the nonfiction prize.
Each author received $10,000 and a year of promotion at Barnes & Noble stores and the superstore chain's online retailer, Barnes & Noble.com.
Past winners include best sellers The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold and Girl With a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier.
