05/05/2005 James Beard cookbook awards for Wells, Stein
Patricia Wells and Rick Stein were among the cookbook writers honoured at the 2005 James Beard Foundation Book Awards in New York on Monday.
Wells won the International category for her Provence Cookbook while Rick Stein's Complete Seafood took the overall award for Cookbook of the Year.
Other cookery books that won in their individual categories included Serena, Food & Stories by Serena Bass (Entertaining and Special Occasions), Beatrice Ojakangas' The Great Scandinavian Baking Book made it into the Cookbook Hall of Fame and Harold McGee's updated tome On Food and Cooking was number one in the Reference section.
Gina Mallet was the winner in the Writing on Food category with her vivid culinary memoir Last Chance To Eat.
The James Beard Foundation is a US organization based in New York City dedicated to furthering the practice and appreciation of the culinary arts in America.
