Belfast to host Irish premiere of Narnia film
The Irish premiere of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The
Wardrobe will take place in Belfast on Thursday night.
The film was adapted from CS Lewis' book for children. .
Lewis was born at Dundela Flats in Strandtown, Belfast on 29 November 1898.
The Northern Irish landscape was the inspiration for the author's fictional
land of Narnia.
Lewis grew up in Ulster, honeymooned there and continued to return
throughout his life
Lewis confirms, in a letter to his brother: "That part of Rostrevor which
overlooks Carlingford Lough is my idea of Narnia."
In The Backward Glance: CS Lewis and Ireland, Ronald Bresland states: "among
the romantic ruins of Dunluce Castle and the windswept beaches of the
Causeway Coast, we can detect something of the origins of Cair Paravel
[Narnia's fairytale castle]."
