Orhan Pamuk's Snow up for £10,000 prize

Snow
Snow, the latest book by best-selling Turkish author Orhan Pamuk, has been shortlisted for the 2005 Independent Foreign Fiction prize.

It joins five other contenders which include Frederic Beigbeder's Windows on the World, Chico Buarque's Budapest, Xiaolu Guo's Village of Stone, Irina Denezhkina's short story collection Give Me (Songs For Lovers) and Elif Shafak's The Flea Palace.

This shortlist has been chosen from more than 80 titles that were initially submitted.

The judges of the Independent Foreign Fiction prize include Independent literary editor Boyd Tonkin and writers Julian Evans and Michele Roberts.

The prize, which will be split equally between the author and the translator, will be awarded at a ceremony in April.
