Tommy Tiernan to launch Cúirt Festival
Comedian and actor Tommy Tiernan will officially launch the programme of the 20th Cúirt International Festival of Literature on Wednesday 9th March. Cúirt is Ireland's premier literary festival and has consistently brought the world's best contemporary writers to Galway for a week-long celebration of the written word. Previous guests have included Nobel Laureates, Booker Prize winners and literary giants.
This year's festival, which runs from April 19th to 24th, will delight all booklovers, with a schedule brimming with wonderful writers from around the globe. Guests will include writers from South Africa, Russia, Nigeria, Moldova, Belarus, Britain, the US, and Romania as well as a varied selection of writers from Ireland, north and south.
Much loved staples of the Cúirt programme will feature, including the Bardic Brunch, the Poetry Grand Slam and the Cúirt trip to Connemara. Galway Youth Theatre will be performing all week and this year's festival promises some additional treats for younger audiences.
All will be revealed on Wednesday 9th March when Galway-resident Tommy Tiernan unveils this year's programme at The Living Room in Galway. Full details of the festival programme will be available on the Galway Arts Centre's website and tickets will go on sale at Galway's Town Hall Theatre on Friday 11th March 2005.
