Yeats' letters to be auctioned

William Butler Yeats
A collection of letters and an essay written by the poet William Butler Yeats are to be auctioned.

The collection is due to be sold at auction next Tuesday at Sotheby's in London. The works include the working manuscript of The Tragic Theatre, which is expected to make up to £80,000.

The collection also includes 18 letters Yeats wrote to his friend Syndey Cokerell, a picture of Lady Gregory and several other personal letters.

Sotheby's literature expert Philip Errington, said, "It is one of the most important groups of manuscripts to have ever appeared at auction in recent times. It will appeal to collectors of modern Irish literature and we have had conversations with institutions who would like to add this to collections."

The Yeats collection will be sold as part of Sotheby's Literature and History Sale.
