08/04/2005 Dickens theme park for Britain
A £60m theme park, based on the life and work of Charles Dickens, is due to open in Kent in 2007.
"We look forward to Dickens World becoming one of Medway's leading visitor attractions," said project director Jonathan Sadler.
Dickens World is part of the regeneration of a former naval dockyard at Chatham in the southeastern county of Kent, near where the Victorian author lived as a child in the early 19th century.
The theme park will feature rides based on Dickens classics, including A Tale of Two Cities, The Pickwick Papers, David Copperfield and Great Expectations, as well recreating the 19th-century London street scenes so prominent in his novels.
