John Fowles dies aged 79
John Fowles, who is best known for his works The Magus and The French Lieutenant's Woman' has died. He was 79.
Fowles who reportedly suffered from heart problems, died on Saturday after a long illness.
Fowles most famous work, The French Lieutenant's Woman, was adapted for the big screen in 1981, starring Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons it received five Oscar nominations in 1982.
His other works included The Collector, The Aristos, Daniel Martin, Mantissa and A Maggot. He also wrote a group of essays on nature in the 1970s and a collection of poetry, entitled Poems.
One of his most recent works was a book of essays, entitled Wormholes, published in May 1998.
