09/08/2005 Salles to direct Kerouac's On the Road
Brazilian director Walter Salles has been confirmed to direct a film version of Jack Kerouac's Beat classic On the Road.
Salles recently helmed the big screen adaptation of Che Guevara's The Motorcycle Diaries.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Salles will adapt the book into a screenplay with frequent collaborator Jose Rivera, who also worked on The Motorcycle Diaries.
Salles said: "On the Road is a seminal book that gave voice to a whole generation - capturing its hunger for experience, unwillingness to accept imposed truths and dissatisfaction with the status quo. It is as modern today as it was four decades ago."
Casting and production are set to begin in 2006.
