Tucker in talks to direct Pullman's Northern Lights
British director Anand Tucker is reportedly close to signing on to helm Northern Lights, the first instalment of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy.
Tucker has previously directed the award winning Hilary and Jackie and the still to be released Shopgirl, which stars Steve Martin and Claire Danes.
Based on the bestselling Pullman novels, the His Dark Materials trilogy comprises of Norther Lights - known as The Golden Compass in the US, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass.
Tucker was chosen for the high-profile project over 50 other directors partially because of a comprehensive presentation the director had put together which included conceptual art, visual effects demos, and a 20-page director's manifesto.
He also had extensive meetings with Pullman and the film's writer Chris Weitz.
"The opportunity to turn Philip Pullman's extraordinary story into a film is literally a dream come true," Tucker told Comingsoon.net.
"I instantly fell in love with His Dark Materials when it was first published, and have been a huge fan ever since. I was entranced by the way the books reminded me of those first magical experiences of reading books when I was a kid. "
