12/06/2005 Roald Dahl gets own museum
A museum celebrating the life and work of Welsh children's author Roald Dahl opened yesterday in Buckinghamshire.
The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre is based in the village of Great Missenden where Dahl lived until his death in 1990.
Dedicated to his vision, the £4m museum will house early manuscripts and family letters as well as giant chocolate doors and seats that resemble crocodiles.
Among the items are early drafts of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory from 1961.
Other literary material includes correspondence with publishers and agents, manuscripts, printers' proofs and illustrations for books, stories, plays, films and articles.
Also on show is an exact replica of the legendary garden shed where Dahl insisted on locking himself away to write.
