Clinton's My Life to come out in paperback

My Life by Bill Clinton
The paperback version of My Life by Bill Clinton, one of last year's biggest selling books, will be released in May this year and is reported to include some additional material and a format that divides the epic-length work in two.

The memoirs of former President Clinton My Life, which has sold 2 million copies in its 957-page hardcover edition, actually will come out in two formats: trade paperback, which has the same dimensions as hardcover and will have a first printing of 250,000, and mass market paperback, a cheaper, pocket-sized edition. The mass market version of My Life will be divided into two volumes, The Early Years and The Presidential Years, each with a first printing of 500,000.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by Clinton's publisher, Alfred A. Knopf.

Trade paperbacks are sold primarily in bookstores, while mass market editions are also found in alternative outlets, such as grocery stores and drug stores. "The success of the book in hardcover, across the entire spectrum of retail outlets, suggests that the audience for both paperback editions will be considerable," Sonny Mehta, president and editor in chief of Knopf, said in a statement.

Clinton's representative, Washington, D.C. attorney Robert Barnett, said Wednesday that both paperback editions of "My Life" will have the new material, but said the actual content had not been determined. "There might be a new chapter or a new foreword," Barnett told The Associated Press.
