Irish novel on Orange long-list
Tatty by Christine Dwyer Hickey has been chosen as one of 20 books nominated for the Orange Prize for Fiction 2005.
Tatty which was published in 2004 is the only book by an Irish author on the list.
The Orange Prize for Fiction is the UK's only annual book award for fiction written by a woman, celebrating excellence, originality and accessibility in women's writing.
Christine Dwyer Hickey is a previous winner of the Listowel Writers Week and Tatty was shortlisted for the Hughes & Hughes/Sunday Independent Irish Novel of the Year Award earlier this year.
Celebrating its tenth year, the Orange Prize was set up in 1996 to celebrate and promote fiction by women throughout the world to the widest range of readers possible and is awarded for the best novel of the year written by a woman. Any woman writing in English - whatever her nationality, country of residence, age or subject matter - is eligible.
The judges for the 2005 award are Jenni Murray OBE, broadcaster and author (Chair); Jo Brand, comedienne and author; Joanne Harris, author; Jude Kelly OBE, theatre director; Moira Stuart OBE, broadcaster. The winner will be announced on June 7th 2005.
