15/08/2005 Banville and Barry for Edinburgh Book Festival
Man Booker Prize nominees John Banville and Sebastian Barry are among the Irish writers taking part in this year's Edinburgh International Book Festival.
Over 500 writers are involved in the 650 events at the Festival, which opened on Saturday and continues until 29 August at Charlotte Square Gardens.
Salman Rushdie, Margaret Atwood, Zadie Smith, John Irving and Julian Barnes are some of the big name novelists that will participate in the festival.
Catherine Lockerbie director of the Festival said: "Edinburgh is now the world's first Unesco City of Literature, in recognition of the deep and dynamic role literature plays in this land."
"We are delighted to be reinforcing this message by bringing titans of world literature to the capital."
