16/08/2005 George Orwell to be honoured in India
Plans have been made to turn the Indian birthplace of writer George Orwell into a museum.
Orwell, who was born Eric Arthur Blair in 1903, was born and lived in the small town of Motihari in the Indian state of Bihar before leaving for England with his mother and sister.
His father, Richard, worked as an agent in the Indian Civil Service.
Local officials would like to see the crumbling, one-story building turned into a museum in celebration of the cult writer who wrote classics such as Animal Farm, 1984 and Down and Out in Paris and London.
The original house is currently home to a local English teacher who said he was unaware that he was living "in a place of historical importance" until Orwell fans began to visit.
