17/01/2005 Anniversary of classic Quixote marked
Today is the 400th anniversary of the publication of Miguel de Cervantes classic, Don Quixote.
Celebrations are taking place in Spain to commemorating the classic and events such as exhibitions, public readings, films and debates are planned to run through the whole year.
Don Quixote de la Mancha deals with a bookseller-turned-maverick knight and his friend and confidante Panza.
First published in 1605, the book is the most published book after the Bible and is considered the first great European novel.
The book is written in an older form of Spanish and is quite a tome, clocking in at 126 chapters. It is widely considered one of the finest books in the canon of Latin American literature.
