18/03/2005 Soccer legend Pele to write autobiography
Pele, the Brazilian soccer legend, has signed a contract to write his autobiography. Publishers Simon and Schuster announced the impending autobiography yesterday and stated that they hope the book will hit the shelves before the 2006 World Cup.
Simon & Schuster declined to say how much the deal was worth but the Publisher's Marketplace web site has reported it as a major deal, a term typically used to describe contracts worth at least $500,000.
Adam Rothberg, Simon & Schuster's New York spokesman, said the publisher's London office had signed world rights for the new book, to be called, Pele: the Autobiography.
Pele was on the Brazilian team that won the world cup in 1958 and 1970 and is considered by many to be the greatest player in soccer history, adored by fans at home and around the world.
He previously published an autobiography in 1977 and numerous books have been written about him.
