18/08/2005 Stephen King to auction character name
Horror novelist Stephen King is taking part in a web auction which offers successful bidders the chance to have a character in his forthcoming book named after them.
All money raised from the Ebay sale will be donated to American freedom of expression group the First Amendment Project.
King, who is selling off a name in his novel CELL, is among 16 authors taking part in the project.
"Buyer should be aware that CELL is a violent piece of work," said King, "which comes complete with zombies set in motion by bad cell phone signals that destroy the human brain," King said.
Best selling novelist John Grisham said the winning bidder would have their name attached to a character portrayed "in a good light".
Other authors taking part include Amy Tan, writer of The Joy Luck Club, romance writer Nora Roberts and the Lemony Snicket, the author of children's series A Series of Unfortunate Events.
