Tóibín, Delaney on IMPAC longlist
Colm Tóibín's The Master and Frank Delaney's Ireland are among six Irish
books to have made it onto the longlist for the €100,000 IMPAC Dublin
Literary Award 2006
The other books are PS I Love You by Cecilia Ahern, Ronan Bennett's Havoc in
its Third Year, Roddy Doyle's Oh, Play That Thing and Something Borrowed by
Tina Reilly.
The ten shortlisted finalists will be named on 5 April with the winner being
announced on 14 June.
132 nominees have been longlisted for the 2006 award, including 32
translated novels and 15 books in languages other than English.
The IMPAC Dublin Literary Award is the world's largest literary prize for a
single work and nominations are made by libraries throughout the world.
Tóibín's book received the most nominations (17), followed by Gilead by
Marilynne Robinson (14) and The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
(13).
Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell got 11 nominations and Susanna Clarke's
Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell had 9.
