Dylan nominated for US book award

Chronicles by Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan has been nominated for the National Book Critics Circle prize in the US.

He made the biography/autobiography shortlist for his Chronicles, Volume 1.

Also competing in the same category are a biography of Shakespeare by Stephen Greenblatt and John Guy's Whitbread Book of the Year nominated work My Heart is My Own: The Life of Mary Queen of Scots.

In the past books by musicians have rarely made it to the shortlist of such an esteemed award, which is selected by book reviewers and critics from newspapers all over America.

The first part of the book deals with Dylan's early life in New York as a young songwriter.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on March 18.
