23/03/2005 Gone, Baby, Gone to be Affleck's directorial debut
American actor Ben Affleck is to make his directorial debut with an adaptation of Dennis Lehane's novel Gone, Baby, Gone.
Affleck, who won an Oscar in 1998 for co-writing Good Will Hunting with his friend Matt Damon, has signed up to direct the film for Touchstone Pictures.
The book, which opens with the line "Each day in this country, twenty-three hundred children are reported missing...", follows two private detectives as they search for a missing child in Boston.
Lehane is also the writer of Mystic River, a novel which became an Oscar-nominated film in 2003 for Clint Eastwood.
Gone, Baby, Gone is expected to begin shooting in Boston this autumn.
