24/02/2005 Hunter S Thompson sales take off in wake of death
Proving there's no such thing as bad publicity and that death truly does pay - for the publishers, at least - sales of books by American author Hunter S Thompson have soared in the wake of the "gonzo" journalist's death.
Thompson, who was 67, shot himself in the head on Sunday night at his compound in Woody Creek, Colorado.
Friends said he had been in considerable pain over the past year after breaking a leg and undergoing hip surgery.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Hell's Angels, Fear and Loathing: On the Campaign Trail '72 and Hey Rube are among his books to have enjoyed an increase in sales.
Vintage Books, the publisher of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, told Associated Press that it had ordered a "significant" reprinting.
