24/08/2005 Jolie for role in Beowulf film adaptation
American actress Angelina Jolie has signed up for the cast of the forthcoming computer animated film adaptation of epic poem Beowulf.
Jolie is to play the Queen of Darkness in the movie, which is to be directed by Robert Zemeckis.
Jolie is the latest A-list star to join the big-budget adaptation and will join actors Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich, Brendan Gleeson and Robin Wright Penn.
Beowulf stars Ray Winstone as the Viking hero who saves his land from the terrible monster Grendel, played by Crispin Glover.
On his way to becoming king, the great warrior is tempted to commit evil by Grendel's mother - Jolie.
Beowulf is one of the oldest epics and most important works in early English.
Roger Avary and Neil Gaiman have written the film's screenplay.
